GET THE PROSPECT PARK APP FOR ANDROID OR IPHONE

Looking for more ways to better explore and appreciate Brooklyn's Backyard? Prospect Park Alliance has launched the Park's first mobile app. The app is available now for iPhone, and Android. Through generous funding from the Brooke Astor Fund for New York City Education in The New York Community Trust, the Alliance was able to create an app that will help visitors better navigate the Park and discover its many destinations and attractions. It is also intended to help visitors expand their knowledge of Park history, wildlife, nature and much more, and will be a great companion app for competitors and spectators for the 2017 Brooklyn 15K.

OFFICIAL CHARITY - FOUNDATION FOR LETTERS

We're very proud and honored to be partnered with Foundation For Letters as our Official Charity of the Brooklyn 15K.

The Foundation for Letters (FFL) provides urban students and schools with access to innovative writing-intensive academic and enrichment programs that are designed, supported and executed by volunteers from New York City's literary community and beyond. FFL also helps schools form their own networks of external support that form partnerships, raise funds and engage volunteers who are committed to increasing student engagement with writing. For more information on FFL please visit their website at foundationforletters.net

FFl's focus is on schools in under-served urban neighborhoods, where lagging achievement levels of students of color remains a critical issue in education today. In 2016, the percentages of Black and Hispanic students achieving a proficient score in ELA were 26.5 and 27.2 percent, respectively. The percentages of White and Asian students scoring at the proficiency level in ELA were 58.8 and 58.9 percent.

The results show that minority students, who often reside in urban, low income areas, enter 9th grade well behind their more affluent classmates. As a result, they struggle to reach “college readiness”, hampering their ability to matriculate to, and more importantly, to remain enrolled and succeed in college and beyond.

The Foundation for Letters believe that it is not "too late" once a student has reached high school with a pre-existing college readiness deficit. FFL helps to close the achievement and college readiness gaps by providing urban high school students with our innovative writing programs, and with access to their network of external support.

The Foundation's original academic and enrichment programs include a poetry and prose writing conference for teens in the Bronx, a series of college literacy workshops for students and families, writing workshops focused on journalism, personal memoir and journaling for students traveling - domestically and abroad, writing centers in schools - and more.
